kimunkamuy

The name "Kimunkamuy" comes from the Ainu word "kimundo," which means "mountain god" or "bear god," referring to a waterfall upstream from the river that runs beside the vineyard. We named our wine “Kimunkamuy” because we believe that the wine we make is a gift from the mountain god.

Brewer Bruce Gutlove comments on Kimunkamuy 2013

Red (Merlot 100%)

It is a Merlot like nothing I have ever tasted before, with strawberry jam and blackberries on the palate, smoky but still a little gentle and fresh, and suitable for long-term aging.

White (Kerner 75%/Chardonnay25%)

The wine is well-balanced, with just the right amount of thickness and acidity, and has a medium smoky body with a slight earthiness to the citrusy flavors of Kerner and the honeyed taste of Chardonnay. The wine is medium smoky, and the fact that you can taste the oak even though it is unoaked is evidence that the Chardonnay's true power has been brought out.
